I am doing a double post because I also want to talk about getting a visa for Korea. I think this might help readers if they have questions about getting the student visa.
I needed an official transcript from UH, my passport, bank statement, the letter of admission papers that KU mailed, a passport photo, and $45. I printed the visa application from the Korean consulate website and then took everything to the consulate building in Nu'uanu. The office workers called me in about 4 days after I dropped everything off and they said I could come in to pick up the visa.
I have some tips for the visa process. The passport photo is easy to buy at different places like Longs and Sam's Club. I just went to the UH campus center and took it there for $5. The bank statement was harder to get than the other documents because it needed to have a minimum balance. I would recommend making sure the account has enough money in it because I think for me the minimum had to be $3000. Lastly, the consulate only took cash when I went there, so make sure you have the $45 and it might change.
